Description Several years has passed since the Digi-Destined left the digital world. But in the digital world several centuries has passed, and once again the DigiDestined must go to the Digital World.
But there is a problem, the Digomon Emepror, as he calls himself, controls a black Digivice which makes it impossible to digivolve in the normal way. How can they overcome this problem, and who is the Digimon Emperor anyway. And more importantly, how did he come to possess a digivice, aren't they only meant for the Digi-Destined? |
Review Some years have passed and trouble yet again has begun to stir in the Digital World, and once again a team of Digidestined must travel and help the Digimon overcome a great menace. This time in the form of a human known as the Digimon Emperor, he has the ability to make dark towers which negate the power of digivolving and dark rings which enslaves any Digimon who wears it. But the new team of Digidestined manages to overcome this by finding a new way to digivolve. Armor-Digivolving.
This season brings into play new Digidestined (and new Digimon of course), but Kari and T.K. remain and are re-chosen this time as well, but even though the old ones aren't the main characters this time again, they do play a part and help the new guys out with advise and sometimes come with them to the digital world and fight with them, even though their Digimon can't digivolve past the rookie stage. And yes, in this season they aren't trapped in the Digital World like last time, this time there is a steady portal where they travel to and fro pretty much each episode. Which kind of doesn't make sense since about 1 minute in the real world equals a year in the Digital World, but lets look past that.
Of the first two seasons I think I like the second slightly more, but they are both quite good (unlike season 3 -> *barf*). Like in the first season the enemy we meet at first is not the real bad guy, but unlike season one, where the first baddie was evil in his own right, just slightly less so then the ones who came after, in season two the Digital Emperor is merely a dupe, he is in fact, oh and spoiler warning here, a Digidestined himself, which is why he has the black digivice and can do the evil that he does. He was manipulated by the real baddies...or are they actually the real baddies, and a lot of the story evolves around him - Ken - coping with what he has done, and trying to redeem himself not only in his new friends' eyes but to himself as well. And we oddly enough learn the fact that the Digidestined we meet are merely the ones for the Japan part of the world, there are other Digidestined all over the world as well. Which kind of sucked I felt, however, DNA-Digivolving more then makes up for it. While Warp-Digivolving was cool in the first season, it is very nice to see they managed to come up with something as cool if not cooler in the second, though of course it halfs the amount of total Digimon but.
The story again engages and it is a grand adventure which all who like grand adventures will love, the sound is up beat punk style stuff, never did understand how Digimon got popular in Japan with the music it has in the original. Visuals are as in the first, decent, it's a kid show so they don't invest alot into that area, but stuff looks cool though, just not 2005 cool
In conclusion, if you watched the first season you should definitely watch this, it continues the story and while it does things differently it still gives off the same old feel. Go watch now, if for nothing else but for the Duel between WarGreymon and BlackWarGraymon.
