Description
On a school camp trip several kids suddenly find themselves in a snow storm in mid summer. Something is defiantly up, and when objects shoot from the sky which turns out to be some sort of digital device which transports them to another world, they know they have got to be dreaming. But when they are attacked by a giant flying insect and barely escapes, they realise they are not dreaming. And if they are ever going to be able to return back home they will have to fight.

And they soon also learn that they were chosen to come here, here to the Digital World for a reason. For they are the Digi-Destined.

Review
The very first anime series I started to watch in modern days (obviously I also watched transformers like every other human when I was a kid). I actually got up early on weekends to catch the new episodes, and still watched all the re-runs on the weekdays early before school. Why this show appealed to me, somewhat out of the blue, I'm not sure. Perhaps it was the dramatic fantasy style setting and the grand adventure of it all, or maybe it was just the cool intro song or the snazzy catchphrases or simply the fact that it tugged at old transformer memories. And just to make it clear, I watched the dubbed version of this show, Norwegian dub even, though I did switch over to English later. I tried the Japanese versions, I really did, but it just wasn't the same...I mean come on, what’s with the dinky jazzy slow tunes in the fight scenes!

I case you didn't know (in which case you've been living under a rock…on pluto), Digimon is a hugely popular series about some kids who get drawn from the real world to the Digital World in times of trouble to save that world. They are the Digidestined and together with their new friend Digimon they set out to fight the bad Digimon who are trying to take over the world. A show aimed at kids, but accessible for all.

Digimon is a show full of adventure and drama with a good story which is not afraid to hurt some feelings if it wants. A good selection of characters, both varied and well built, including Digimon, evil baddies and mysterious entities. Scenes like when patamon finally manages to digivolve and turns into Angemon so he can take out Devimon, and dies in the process, and when Mat decides to leave the group prove the shows depth and truly good story of the show. While the dialog can seem a bit dinky at times, you let it slide, because you know the show is aimed at a more younger audience. The Digimon and their Digivolutions are sweet, though when they all Digivolve right after each other it takes a few minutes and you start looking for the remote to zap around while they finish their stuff. The visuals can range from sweet to sucky, a lot of shortcuts are made, but again the excuse of a first season kid show. The audio, and remember I'm talking about the English one here, is pretty decent as well. Nice intro and some ok background music throughout.

A truly excellent show which made me growl out "Mettlll Grayyyymon!" and other fun catchphrases on my way to the bus for school after watching an episode, yes you may look down on me now. A show I'm very happy I started to watch, a show which made me want to watch more anime, which made me want to watch Last Exile, which made me want to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, and so it has snowballed. And the snowball doesn't seem to want to stop anytime soon.
